In spite of recent settlements with the NYCLU, bad publicity from a recent false arrest of a photographer and a new directive issued by the Police Commissioner, officers of the New York City Police Department continue to LIE to photographers regarding their rights to take pictures in the subway. The latest incident is described here. According to the photographer:
Took a picture of Roosevelt Island station
COP said no pictures allowed.
I said yes photography is allowed.
He then claimed that i can take pictures of the train and station but not the tracks or tunnel
I stated I can take pictures of anything I want!
He stated there are “concerns about terrorism”
Apparently the officer can’t read or understand the law. How many more lawsuits will it take before NYPD agrees to obey the law and stop lying to photographers?
